yes ttf autohint can produce good results, and if you are comfortable with editing the control files, you can even tweak those results to be even better.2 -

whenever two diagonals meet, that heaviness, or percieved dark spot, can be lightened by adding an ink trap, and is relevant for onscreen rendering, in that it can lighten the rendering onscreen also…4 -
